Where will Yuta Nakayama fit in at Huddersfield Town? JTalkPod’s Sam Robson gave the lowdown on the defender!

Robson discussed what the fans can expect from Yuta at Huddersfield Town.

“Expect to have a very good, technically gifted player; a player that can play in various positions.

“He came up at Kashiwa Reysol at 19 and started as a midfielder in the youth ranks, so he is very good on the ball with a decent physical presence as well - which is not always something you get from Japanese players. He has developed that into so many different positions.

“He later established himself mainly at Kashiwa as a ball-playing centre back, he’s gone on to play left back a lot of times for the national teams, he then gets into holding midfield as well!

“So he is a very adaptable player, but most importantly very good technically.”

Robson spoke highly about Nakayama’s ability to immediately switch positions when he is needed to.

“He is the best player for a change in formation - he can switch immediately from a centre back to a left back if he needed to.

“He does this for the national team as well, he plays centre back and left back.

“The fact that he can do either of those roles comfortably at the flick of a switch, he is the ideal player to give the team flexibility.”

The experience that Nakayama has shown that the sky is the limit for the 25-year-old defender.

“He is very experienced given that he is only 25; he has got a good eight years of professional football behind him.

“He went to Holland and established himself there and now he has got a new challenge at Huddersfield.

“I’ve no doubt he will be looking at getting into the Premier League and establishing himself as a regular in a top division in Europe.”

Sam talked us through how Yuta will step up on the pitch - and possibly surprise the fans!

“His delivery is one of the things you don’t really expect from Nakayama, but his delivery from left-back is really good and will provide a number of crucial crosses.”

Three words the JTalkPod podcaster used to describe Town’s new defender were:

“Calm, technical and physical.”
