Jon Worthington’s Young Terriers travel the short distance to the Yorkshire Payments Stadium, playing the Northern Premier League Division One East side in a 3pm kick-off.

21-year-old Ben Jackson is relishing the prospect of being back with his teammates for pre-season.

“It’s good to be back!

“The break was nice, it’s nice to have some time off, but with the way that the season ended at Doncaster, I personally wanted to get straight back in and start working.

“I worked really hard whilst I was off to make sure that I could hit the ground running, and so far, I’ve done that, so I’m just really excited to keep going and working hard.”

Jackson spent the latter half of last season on loan at Doncaster Rovers, making 15 appearances in their battle against relegation.

“It was a massive experience.

“It’s a learning curve going through that, and it was the first time in my career that I’ve gone through relegation.

“Obviously I don’t want too many of them, but to see what was going on around me and how other players and the staff and the Club itself reacted was invaluable to me as a young player.

“It’ll help me be more calm in situations, especially in situations where we might be a goal down and having to react to that.

“You can’t get your head down too much, you have to keep the lads around you going, you can’t just focus on yourself.”

Looking ahead to Saturday’s game against Brighouse, the left back admits he can’t wait to be back on the pitch.

“I can’t wait! Any games are exciting, but pre-season definitely brings its own challenges and I think all the lads are excited to get out there and start getting the games in.

“Brighouse will be a tough physical challenge. We’re all really looking forward to that and seeing how we can work around it.”

For any fans that are undecided on whether or not to attend Saturday’s game, Jacko has some words for you!

“Anyone coming on Saturday will see a lot of energy!

“The way we’re looking to play is exciting - we’re not just going to sit back, we’re going to get after them and play our style of football and try and score as many goals as we can.”
