TOWN WOMEN WELCOME MIDDLESBROUGH ON SUNDAY

21 January 2022

Town Women back in action on Sunday 23 January 2022

- Town Women welcome Middlesbrough for 2pm kick-off
- Terriers looking to build on Nottingham Forest win
- Laura Elford looking to score in fourth successive game

Huddersfield Town Women are looking to move further up the table as they welcome Middlesbrough to the Stafflex Arena on Sunday 23 January 2022; 2pm kick-off.

Following their crucial 2-1 win at home last time out against Nottingham Forest, Town will head into Sunday’s game with their eyes set on promotion, as the three points gained in their last match brings them one place closer to the top.

Middlesbrough are currently winless in their last five in all competitions, with their last win coming back in October 2021 against Hull City.

The last time the two sides met was in the League Cup in November 2021, as Town ran out 3-2 winners thanks to a Kate Mallin brace and a goal from Ria Montgomery.

Speaking ahead of the game, Manager Glen Preston reflected on the win over Nottingham Forest.

“I think the win against Nottingham Forest was massive for us, especially for the players.

“It keeps us in the fight.

“We know everything is still out of our control as we rely on the teams above us to drop points, but had we lost or even drawn I think we all know the gap would have become too big to overturn in just 12 games.”

Mia Parry, Town’s January signing, made her debut last weekend and impressed her new Manager.

“Mia’s been class since she came in.

“You can see she’s eager to play and learn, she’s already been knocking on my door for extra analysis and feedback, and you can’t help but love that level of professionalism.

“Against Forest, she enabled us to change shape to control the opposition better in central areas and I don’t think she lost the ball once!

“She did a great job.”

PLAYER TO WATCH

After putting in a great performance in the 2-1 win against Forest last Sunday, Ria Montgomery is our player to watch this weekend. The winger has scored in both games against the opposition this season and will be hoping to add to that this weekend.

Town will still have to guard against complacency though as Middlesbrough do boast Faye Dale, who has five league goals this season.

HOW TO WATCH

Town fans will be able to watch the Terriers play at the Stafflex Arena, Storthes Hall, HD8 0WA with pay on the gate available. Tickets are £5 Adults, £3 Concessions, and kids go free.

Kick-off is at 2pm on Sunday 23rd January, with match updates on Twitter and Instagram - @HTAFCWomen - all afternoon.
