JAMAL BLACKMAN SIGNS FOR THE TERRIERS!

31 January 2022

Goalkeeper joins for the rest of the season

- Huddersfield Town sign Jamal Blackman
- Goalkeeper joins the Club for the rest of the season
- Comments from Head of Goalkeeping Paul Clements

Welcome to Huddersfield Town, Jamal Blackman!

The 6’ 7” tall goalkeeper, who was a free agent after departing Major League Soccer side Los Angeles FC at the end of 2021, has joined the Club on a contract running until 31 May 2022 inclusive.

As his registration was last with Los Angeles, the move is pending international clearance.

The 28-year-old has made over 150 senior appearances across the Sky Bet Championship, League 1, League 2, the Swedish top-flight and the MLS, and was capped by England Under-19 international. 50 of those starts came in our division through loan spells at Sheffield United and with Rotherham United last season.

London-born Jamal is a graduate of the Chelsea Academy and was a professional at Stamford Bridge from 2012 until 2021.

He has trained with Carlos Corberan’s First Team squad at Canalside for two weeks ahead of signing this contract.

Jamal will take the vacant number 18 shirt.

Head of Goalkeeping Paul Clements commented:

“It’s great that Jamal has joined us for the rest of the season. It’s no surprise that he has real quality – you’re not on the books at Chelsea for such a long period without that – but his attitude since coming into train with us means that he also had a lot of potential to improve further.

“He’s got a fantastic size and stature for a goalkeeper and good experience of our division through his time with Sheffield United and Rotherham United. He offers great competition for Lee Nicholls and bolsters our goalkeeping department.”

Paul continued:

“Jamal’s arrival takes the pressure off our younger goalkeepers too. Ryan Schofield can focus on recovering from the shoulder injury he suffered at Burnley, and we can continue to prioritise the development of players like Nicholas Bilokapic and Gio Bellagambi, who have been covering Lee in recent weeks.”
