Huddersfield Town midfielder Jon Russell is pleased with his personal performance as the Terriers saw out a 1-0 win over Barnsley to progress to the Fifth Round of the Emirates FA Cup.

The wins saw Town go through to the next round and extend their unbeaten run to 12 in all competitions, in front of 16,605 fans at the John Smith’s Stadium.

Speaking to HTTV after the game, Russell was quick to comment on how he was feeling after the final whistle.

“I think we played really well.

“My performance – I think I did well, but I think the team were excellent.

“We were quite sharp, and we got the first goal, we just had to keep the lead.

“Barnsley came in strong.

“We just had to keep our heads and keep doing the things that we were doing in the first half to get the goal and to continue to do that.”

The midfielder had a HUGE chance to double Town’s lead in the final minute of added time, and aired his frustration at going just wide!

“There was one defender, so I just thought I’d get in the box.

“Someone played a great pass, perfect!

“I took a touch, but I think my body was moving just a bit too fast for my legs and I couldn’t get the finish – I’m fuming about that!”

The 21-year-old also discussed how much being picked to play the full 90 minutes for Town in their cup games means to him.

“As a player, that’s all you look for, opportunity.

“You just want to take them.

“I feel like I should just do my hardest when I get the opportunity and hopefully I take it.”
