Carlos Corberán praised the mentality and commitment of his players as Town made it 17 games unbeaten in all competitions against Birmingham City at St Andrew’s, running out comfortable two nil winners.

“I’m very pleased, the players arrived to the game with the right mentality.

“For me in this moment of the season you need to go into these games with this type of personality, mentality and high level of commitment.

“In the first half, this is exactly what the team did, understanding very well where the advantages were.

“We defended very solid, and used the counter attacks to make the difference with the result.”

Speaking about the game in more detail, the Head Coach highlighted how the first half of the game was the difference for Town.

“We used the space in behind the defenders in the first half, and then we had to defend very solid because they started to introduce many offensive players.

“We had to defend well to find transitions, but we didn’t find as many transitions as we wanted to find – maybe the pitch made it a little bit difficult to play the ball and make our normal attacks.

“They had a couple of good opportunities that we should try to avoid, and the second half was more balanced, but in the first half for me the team unbalanced the game.”

Asked about the changes made to his side, Carlos highlighted that these changes are required with the number of fixtures Town are currently competing in.

“It’s necessary, and it’s going to be even more necessary because Birmingham played on Tuesday and we played on Wednesday, and we needed to have some refreshed players.

“More than refreshed players, those who were in a better condition to compete this game.

“I think it’s always an important step to see that the players that maybe didn’t play in the previous game in the first eleven ready to compete and help the team.”
