Huddersfield Town B Team Manager Jon Worthington reflects on loss against West Brom
- West Bromwich Albion 3-0 Huddersfield Town B
- Town top group despite first loss of group stage
- Comments from B Team Manager Jon Worthington
Having been largely faultless until this stage in the Premier League Cup so far this season, our B Team were brought back down to earth with a bump away to reigning champion West Bromwich Albion this afternoon.
Still proceeding as group winners despite the defeat, B Team Manager Jon Worthington admitted that he was disappointed with the result after the game had gotten away from his side before the break.
Speaking to htafc.com at full-time, he said:
“Obviously the result was disappointing, and the damage was done in the early stages of the game.
“Although we spoke about it before the game we didn’t deal with the conditions in the wind and rain, which caused a difficult pitch to play on at times. We didn’t adjust to those conditions, and we got found out.
“Their attacking players are very talented in one-on-one situations on a pitch where your footing is very hard to keep.
“If you get squared up one-on-one at that end of the pitch you’re going to be in trouble, and we were.
“The first 30 minutes were disappointing, but we’re in development football so you’ve got to learn, players have got to learn and accept that this is part of the process.
“We’ve all got to accept that, move on and make sure it doesn’t happen next time.
“We had words at half-time, we addressed a few things and rightly so. To be fair to the lads they’ve taken ownership and reacted in the right way.
“They could’ve gone under but they didn’t, they came out and played for a bit of pride, worked for each other and in those moments that’s all you can ask for.
“Despite that, we’ve hit the targets that we’ve wanted by going through top of our group, the points total we’ve amassed and getting a home tie in the next round.”
