Town were edged by Sheffield United at Bramall Lane in their first game back since the 2022 FIFA World Cup break recently ended in the Sky Bet Championship despite a spirited effort.

Converting the only clearcut opportunity of the game, Billy Sharp won the game for Sheffield United in the first half after lifting the ball over Lee Nicholls after a nice pass through from Iliman Ndiaye.

Defending well for the remainder of the game, Town had the initiative for the majority of the second period, pushing forward and committing men to their attacks without being able to break down the home defence.

With the home side defending deep in the final exchanges, Town may’ve equalised through Michał Helik after a neat clip through from Brahima Diarra, but the tall defender couldn’t make a connection before goalkeeper Wes Foderingham was able to gather the ball.

Now a week away from returning to action at home against Watford, the Terriers will be hoping to add more of their injured contingent back into contention before that meeting at the John Smith’s Stadium.
