Academy Coach George Danaher has been preparing his team to play Burton Albion on Saturday 6 August 2022 as Huddersfield Town’s Under-19s start their 2022/23 league campaign.

The game takes place at St. George’s Park; noon kick-off.

Speaking to htafc.com, Town’s Under-19s Coach George Danaher discussed what the aim of the pre-season was for the Young Terriers.

“The main aim for the whole pre-season for the new Under-19 group is trying to develop the Terrier Spirit, so the games that we put in place, games against two men’s teams and then a couple of academy teams, have really helped us practise that.

“I’m pretty extreme with pre-season, I try to test all areas of the players.

“So, not just physical, I try to test their mental capacity to try to deal with a bit of adversity and to deal with high challenge, whether that be a physical challenge or just being on the grass for the number of sessions that we have done, and the lads have coped with that really well. “

Saturday’s game against Burton Albion is the first league game of the season for Under-19s, one that Danaher has prepared them for.

“The overriding theme to prepare for this game has been the Terrier Spirit, so that’s on the pitch around winning duels, pressing the ball and being really aggressive in and out of possession.

“When we haven’t got the ball, how do we hunt the ball down together as a team and then when we have got the ball, how do we penetrate through teams to score.

“Off the pitch we have been working a lot on togetherness, teamwork - we went to the Lake Distract on a trip and that was a really good bonding session for the lads and the staff.

“There’s been a lot going on for the players.”

With the fixture taking place at England’s home, St. George’s Park, the Young Terriers Coach spoke about what that opportunity means for the players.

“Some of them have played at St. George’s Park before, but obviously the facilities are outstanding.

“The pitch will really suit us in terms of our style of play, in the sense of playing out from the back and keeping the ball on the floor.

“We’re always looking forward to going down there, it’s a top place to play.”

The game against Burton Albion will take place at St. George’s Park from noon, and fans are able to attend!
