Huddersfield Town nominated in Menopause Friendly Employer Awards!

Huddersfield Town have been named as a finalist in the industry-recognised Menopause Friendly Employer Awards - powered by HSBC UK, first direct and M&S Bank.

Organised by Menopause Friendly and supported by the CIPD, the inaugural Menopause Friendly Employer Awards attracted over 85 entries across 10 categories. Winners will be announced at the Awards ceremony on Thursday September 22 2022 at the Leonardo Royal Hotel, St Paul’s. The event will be hosted by broadcaster Louise Minchin where 180 guests will attend in person as 100s more join via live link from across the country.

Town have been shortlisted in the Most Supportive Partner category. This award will go to the organisation that demonstrates the most effort to encourage and inspire external organisations to take action and start conversations around menopause in the workplace.

“We’re absolutely delighted to have been shortlisted for this award, as it is another landmark moment in our journey to ensure our football club is as inclusive and welcoming of everyone as it can possibly be,” says Ann Hough, Huddersfield Town’s Operations Director and Board Lead for Equality.

“Our work on the menopause stems from acknowledging that women are under-represented in our environment, and we want to change that by ensuring women and people of all genders are fully supported with their individual needs.

“As the first football club to be recognised as ‘Menopause Friendly’, we are very proud to be leading the way in breaking taboos and encouraging conversations about the menopause and other subjects.

“This nomination is testament to the hard work of many people at Huddersfield Town and I want to take this opportunity to thank them today.”

“The standard of work and level of activity demonstrated by entrants to the first-ever Menopause Friendly Employer Awards has been really high, says Deborah Garlick, CEO of Henpicked: Menopause in The Workplace.

“We received entries from organisations large and small from banking to retail, healthcare to engineering. We were particularly pleased to see entries from largely male organisations, including Huddersfield Town Football Club. Seeing them put menopause front and centre in their workplace culture shows great progress is being made.

“It was an absolute pleasure to join the independent judging panel as they reviewed each application and to see the passion, dedication and commitment of these inspirational businesses and people to change the lived experience of menopause in their workplace.

Not long ago, menopause was so clearly a taboo in the workplace: now we’re preparing to host this prestigious Awards event to celebrate the achievements and progress being made in this area: it’s wonderful!”

The other finalists alongside Town in the Most Supportive Partner category is Santander UK and HSBC UK, which includes First Direct and M&S Bank.
