TOM LEES SIGNS NEW LONG-TERM CONTRACT!

Huddersfield Town defender Tom Lees signs contract extension until 2025

- Tom Lees extends contract until 2025
- Central defender commits future to Huddersfield Town
- Comments from Head of Football Operation Leigh Bromby

We are delighted to confirm that Tom Lees has extended his contract with the Club until at least 2025!

Having arrived in West Yorkshire in the summer of 2021 on a free transfer after the expiration of his contract with Sheffield Wednesday, his original deal would have been due to finish at the end of the current 2022/23 season.

An influential figure at the back for Town since becoming a Terrier, the 31-year-old central defender quickly won supporters over thanks to his reliable performances, calm nature, leadership by example and commitment to the cause.

The latest senior member of our squad to commit his future to Town, he joins fellow defender Ollie Turton and Club captain Jonathan Hogg in extending his stay in West Yorkshire in recent weeks.

A virtual ever present in the starting side since his arrival, Lees has made well over 500 appearances since breaking into senior football at 19-years-old in 2009 with just a handful of those coming from the bench, underlining the consistency and desire to play that has defined his career to date.

This contract extension is due to end as Lees reaches 35-years-old, with the defender committing the remainder of his prime years to the Club.

Head of Football Operations Leigh Bromby commented:

“Tom is a model professional on and off the pitch, and one of many leaders amongst our senior players within the squad that set the tone, uphold standards and set an example across the Club.

“Still just 31-years-old and in prime physical condition, this deal ties him down throughout the prime of his career, with his attitude and professionalism allowing him to continue improving with age.

“Liked and appreciated by his teammates and our staff alike, Tom has made himself a key member of our squad since signing and there was no hesitation to extend his stay with us and keep him a part our core for years to come.”

Head Coach Danny Schofield added:

“Tom is a dream to coach, with his passion to learn and take on new ideas a real credit to him with so many games under his belt already, giving our younger defenders an ideal role model.

“A committed trainer, dedicated worker and brilliant professional, his personality and temperament is exactly what we look for in a player, and he’s been an asset to the Club since joining last season.

“His experience and leadership within the group is an invaluable resource for us, so I’m really pleased that he’s agreed to extend his contract and I look forward to continue working with him.”
