Five players make their first competitive Town starts

- Huddersfield Town side named to face Preston North End
- Summer signings Mahoney, Nakayama & Boyle come in
- Brodie Spencer & Etienne Camara also start

Head Coach Danny Schofield has handed first competitive Huddersfield Town starts to five players in tonight’s Carabao Cup Round One game against Preston North End; 7.45pm kick-off at the John Smith’s Stadium.

Summer recruits Connor Mahoney, Yuta Nakayama and Will Boyle all come into the side to make their first starts for the Club tonight, with the latter two having already appeared as substitutes.

There are also starts for two younger members of the squad. French midfielder Etienne Camara, 19, makes his first competitive senior start, having appeared once before as a substitute in the Emirates FA Cup, whilst Northern Ireland international Brodie Spencer also starts at right back.

Jordan Rhodes makes his first start of the campaign, whilst Josh Koroma and Duane Holmes come back into the team.

Lee Nicholls, Tom Lees – who skippers the side tonight – and Jon Russell all retain their places from the first two games of the Sky Bet Championship campaign.

Several senior players are among the substitutes tonight, with three B Team players alongside them as this competition allows for nine substitutes.

Nicholas Bilokapic is the backup goalkeeper tonight with Jacob Chapman starting for the B Team at Worksop, whilst left back Ben Jackson makes second appearance as a substitute this season.

The final spot is handed to 22-year-old Irishman Danny Grant. After an injury hit 2021/22 season, the former Bohemian winger makes his first appearance in a First Team match day squad after impressing in pre-season.

Jonathan Hogg and Danny Ward are both rested this evening, whilst Schofield is without Matty Pearson (foot) and David Kasumu (hamstring).
