Danny Schofield said that the players are “going into the game against Preston with a positive mindset” when he spoke to the press on Monday afternoon.

Speaking to the media in his press conference ahead of the Carabao Cup game, Danny addressed the fitness of the squad, as well as the status of Connor Mahoney.

“Apart from Matty Pearson and David Kasumu, we’re strong.

“Pearson is more long-term, but Kasumu is better news than we were expecting, he should be fully fit in four or five weeks.

“Connor Mahoney arrived at the Club on the back of two seasons where he hasn’t played much, so we want to get him to a physical level to compete.

“He has integrated into the group really well and has been the 19th man, so he’s been around it.

“He’s played for the B Team and had individual coaching.”

Town’s Head Coach then went on to talk about the possibility of signing new players.

“We’re always looking to strengthen the squad.

“We’ll look at it with the recruitment team and work with them on that.

“We want the right players and the right characters who can integrate quickly.”

Our Head Coach spoke about the importance of the half-time talk and how it can change the game.

“Words at half time can be quite emotional, and I think we saw more out of them in the second half against Birmingham because of the talk.

“It’s a balance between being direct and having discussions.”

Looking ahead to Tuesday evening’s game against Preston North End, Schofield discussed what he expects.

“We’re going into the game against Preston with a positive mindset.

“We want to compete and try to win the game.

“Mentality and attitude wise, we have to treat it as a league game and be competitive regardless of what changes we might make.

“Preston are a very competitive and have a good structure in defence and attack.

“They look difficult to beat and have some good attacking players, they have had a good start to the season.”
