Town Head Coach Danny Schofield was delighted having seen his side earn their first win of the season, seeing off Stoke City 3-1 at the John Smith’s Stadium.
His first competitive win as Head Coach of the Club thanks to a penalty save from Lee Nicholls and goals from Yuta Nakayama, Danny Ward and Jordan Rhodes, it was a day to remember for Schofield.
“The emotions are very different to the first three games of the season!
“It’s very emotional, football, and we’re very positive after the game. We performed really well.
“The feelings in the dressing room are really positive, but we need to use this as a catalyst to move forward and make sure the performances are consistent so we have a chance to get the right result.”
Giving us an insight into how the dressing room was at full-time, Danny praised the spirit of his squad and highlighted how important the bond between his staff, players and our supporters is.
“The lads are together. We’ve suffered in the early part of the season, but together. The effort the lads put in, you could feel the crowd behind them supporting us.
“It’s tough for the supporters when we’re not winning games and we’re not performing to the levels we know we’re capable of, but I thought there was a real togetherness today – in terms of the supporters, the players and the staff, and that’s what it’s going to take to be competitive.”
In the remainder of the interview, Schofield goes on to discuss the tactical changes he made changing shape and operating a three-man defence, how important it is for players such as Yuta Nakayama and Jack Rudoni to be showing their ability already and just how important Lee Nicholls’ penalty save could go on to be.
