PREVIEW: HTAFC WOMEN vs WOLVERHAMPTON WANDERERS WOMEN

Huddersfield Town Women look forward to first home game of 2022/23 season

- HTAFC Women vs Wolverhampton Wanderers Women
- Match at Stafflex Arena on Sunday 28 August 2022 at 2pm
- Side looking for second league win is as many fixtures

Huddersfield Town Women’s first home game of the season sees Wolverhampton Wanderers Women making the trip to the Stafflex Arena on Sunday 28 August in what promises to be a game of high quality, passion, and excitement.

Wolves Women had a great 2021/22 season, finishing top of the league on 59 points ahead of second place Derby County with a record of 18 wins, five draws and just one loss. However, they missed out on the one available promotion spot in a Play-Off against southern division champions Southampton.

Wolves Women are a team that scores plenty of goals but also defend well, picking up 5-0 victories three times in the league last year. A player who stands out as one to watch in this game is their top goal scorer from last season Amber Hughes. She netted 24 goals in 28 appearances last season and will be looking to replicate this form again this campaign.

Town Women suffered two narrow defeats against Wolves last season, losing 3-2 at home and 2-1 away, with Wolves picking up a second half winner on both occasions. However, Town Women have started the new season the stronger. With both clubs travelling to newly promoted teams for the first game of the new campaign, Town Women cruised to a 7-1 victory against Boldmere St Michaels while Wolves were held to a 1-1 draw by Liverpool Feds.

Skipper Lauren Griffiths is looking for revenge from last season and to put on a performance for their first home game of the season:

“Last season we did ourselves a disservice in both games against Wolves. We are aware of their strengths but know this season we can do better and come out with the win.”

Manager Glen Preston added:

“There’s no sterner test than to face last season’s champions.

“We know that we will have to bring our A game to get something from this game, but we take a lot of confidence from our performance and result against Boldmere and are looking forward to playing in front of a home crowd.”

You can be there in person by joining us at the Stafflex Arena, Storthes Hall Park, HD8 0WA. The game kicks off at 2pm on Sunday 28 August.
