Goalkeeper Michael Acquah is looking forward to the challenge when the Under-19s welcome Salford City on Saturday 20 August.

George Danaher’s Young Terriers host the Ammies in a friendly at the Millers Oils High Performance Complex; 11am kick-off.

Sitting down with htafc.com, Acquah spoke about how he found the 2022/23 pre-season.

“Pre-season was frustrating for me as I was out for six weeks with an injury.

“I think I’ve come back well and I’m looking forward to the rest of the season now.

“In training, I’ve been working on my right foot - I’m trying to increase the rate of kicking on it.”

Recent weeks have seen the ‘keeper train alongside the First Team, as well as travel with them on a match day.

“Being around the First Team has been a really good experience for me.

“Travelling with them, seeing how they prepare for a match day, being around them in the canteen – it all helps.

“Training alongside them, seeing how they train, the standards that they hold themselves to, and the intensity that they work at – it makes you eager to try and match that.”

Looking ahead to Saturday’s game against Salford, the 18-year-old commented on what he expects.

“It’ll be a good challenge for us – Salford are a strong side.

“We’ve played them before, so we have an idea of how they play.

“As a squad, we’ve been strong in recent games.

“We’ve played against senior teams and got positive results, so we know we can do well.”

The youngster also took the time to discuss his aims and ambitions for the season.

“To play as many B Team games as possible!

“Perhaps a loan as well to help with my development.

“Basically, a lot of game time – I want lots of minutes this season.”

Fans are welcome to come to the training ground to support the Young Terriers from 10.30am. The game will be played on one of the pitches over the canal, but supporters are asked to report to the Millers Oils High Performance Complex as normal to gain entry to the match. Limited parking will be available at the training ground on a first come, first served basis.
