Despite a spirited second half performance down to ten men, Town were unable to undo the two goal deficit that Norwich had established in the opening 15 minutes of the game.

Early goals from Josh Sargent and Danel Sinani gave Town a mountain to climb, but the Terriers gave as good as they got for the remainder of the encounter. Without making any clear cut chances in the first half, Town played plenty of good football to make openings for Danny Ward especially, but Tim Krul was always on hand to deny him.

To end the half Yuta Nakayama hit a stinging direct free-kick that was spilled by the Norwich keeper, but the home side were first to the rebound and managed to clear before Town could have another shot on target.

Moments into the second half the task got even harder, with central defender Tom Lees shown a straight red card for a professional foul, bringing down a Norwich attacker clean through on goal, denying them a strike on goal.

Rather than introduce a direct replacement, Town continued with four at the back and grew back into the game. The introduction of B Team regulars Pat Jones and Etienne Camara breathed new life into the attack, and it wasn’t long before the young Welshman made his presence felt.

Played in down the right by Jack Rudoni, winger Jones drove at goal with real pace, turning experienced defender Grant Hanley inside out to create room for a strike with his weaker left boot on the edge of the box, finding the bottom right corner and beating Tim Krul with a strong strike.

Moments later Jones almost created the equaliser for Jordan Rhodes from the other wing in similar fashion, but his ball across was just a touch overplayed and Krul was able to just get there before Rhodes could make the telling touch.
