Huddersfield Town midfielder Jonathan Hogg was delighted to captain the Terriers as they secured a spot in the top six of the Sky Bet Championship on Friday evening.

Hoggy led his side to a 2-1 victory over Barnsley, and was quick to comment on how he was feeling after the final whistle.

“Unbelievable. I bet everyone in that dressing room’s buzzing right now – I’m dying to get back in there!

“It’s what we deserve. We’ve shown week in, week out, we run through brick walls for each other and we’ve got our rewards for it.”

Wearing the captain’s armband, the midfielder discussed the honour of getting to do so.

“It’s a joy to come in and work with this group every day.

“Some of the players we’ve got, the characters, the team spirit that we’ve built this year – it’s magnificent.

“It reminds me of last time we went up.

“It’s pretty magic in that dressing room and I’m hoping and praying that we can get over the line again.”

Hoggy also took the time to give an honest reflection on the 97 minutes of play against Barnsley.

“I thought in the first half, we took our goals really well.

“The second half – I don’t think we got out of second gear to be honest.

“It’s not a bad thing, it’s not a good thing, we need to save our legs. 2-0 up, comfortable, they didn’t really look like getting a goal until that last bit of the magic by the kid – fair play to him.

“Like I said, we didn’t get out of second gear, which is the disappointing thing, but we know if we needed to, that the gears were already there to step up.”

Town’s final regular season home game of the 2021/22 campaign is on Saturday 7 May at 12.30pm against Bristol City. CLICK HERE to secure your seat now!
