Huddersfield Town Women return back to league football this Sunday as they face high-flying, newly promoted Wolverhampton Wanderers at the Stafflex Arena.

The West Midlands side has enjoyed a good start to their league campaign, currently sitting level on points with table-toppers Fylde but below on goal difference.

Daniel McNamara’s side were promoted into the Northern Premier Division through the FA’s ‘Upward Movement’ and are yet to concede a goal in any of their five league matches so far.

Town boss Steve Appleton believes this will be a tough fixture:

“Wolves will obviously be a really tough test for us, they’re currently top of the league without conceding a goal, so they’ve set the standard so far this season.”

Meanwhile, Huddersfield have had a fairly inconsistent start to the season with the Terriers currently sitting in fifth place on eight points (five less than Wolves).

Town will be looking to bounce back from their previous league fixture which saw them beaten 4-0 away to Burnley at the start of September. However, Town did recover well from this defeat in the FAWNL League Cup a fortnight ago, when they thrashed southern side Boldmere St Michaels 7-2.

With the Terriers not playing last weekend, Steve Appleton saw advantages off the pitch:

“We’ve trained well, but most importantly it gave us an opportunity to get a few players off the treatment table and back on the pitch.”

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Starting with the visitors, Anna Price has proven to be very effective from the bench with her being joint top scorer at the club on two goals. However, with five clean sheets, you can’t look no further than Wolves goalkeeper Shannon Turner.

Meanwhile, for the hosts, all eyes will be on Britt Sanderson to continue her goalscoring form. Currently Town’s top scorer with four, Sanderson has started every league game this season and has proven to be the difference maker with her goalscoring ability.
