Congratulations to Huddersfield Town winger Sorba Thomas on being named Sky Bet Championship Player of the Month for August!
With his first professional league goal and four assists under his belt in just five Championship appearances in 2021/22, it has been a lightening start for a player who only made his full league debut at the start of the season. Voted as Man of the Match by Town fans on four separate occasions already, it’s a career milestone for the former non-league man, who only joined the Club in January 2021.
Although shortlisted having overseen our encouraging start to the season, Head Coach Carlos Corberán was not selected as the Sky Bet Championship Manager of the Month, losing out to Fulham FC manager Marco Silva in a strong category.
Speaking to HTTV, Sorba said:
“I never thought this time last year that I would be getting an award like this.
“To actually get it and see that the work I’ve been doing on the training pitch has really helped, massively.
“I’ll FaceTime my family members and enjoy it today, but tomorrow’s just another day.”
Speaking about his season so far, Sorba selected a moment from early in the campaign as his highlight so far.
“The Derby assist stands out for me.
“It was my first start, and I feel like from that one ball, everyone saw that is was a massive strength that I’ve got that we can use, and I’ve felt like I’ve just gotten stronger and stronger since that day.”
Nominated alongside Rob Dickie (QPR), Aden Flint (Cardiff City) and Aleksander Mitrovic (Fulham), Sorba was chosen by former Barnsley manager Danny Wilson, Sky Sports’ EFL expert Don Goodman, EFL Communications Director Mark Rowan, and Sky Bet EFL trader Ivor Davies as the league’s standout player in August.
