SORBA THOMAS CALLED UP TO WALES SQUAD

28 September 2021

Huddersfield Town winger Sorba Thomas has been called up to the Welsh national team for the first time in his career for their World Cup qualifiers against Czech Republic and Estonia

- Sorba Thomas called up by Wales for the first time
- Welsh manager Robert Page named him in squad to face Czech Republic and Estonia
- Sorba could become 12th player in Town history to represent Wales

Wales manager Robert Page has today confirmed that Sorba Thomas has been called up to the Welsh national team for their World Cup Qualifiers against Czech Republic and Estonia.

Another milestone on his rapid rise from Non-League football having joined Huddersfield Town from Boreham Wood in January 2021, the Sky Bet Championship Player of the Month for August has been in incredible form to start the 2021/22 season.

Having registered four assists and a goal in Town’s opening nine league fixtures, the 22 year old has made a name for himself in the division thanks to his pinpoint deliveries from dead ball situations and bursts of speed down the wing. A firm favourite with Huddersfield fans, Sorba went on a run of four Man of the Match performances across August, as voted for by Town supporters.

Eligible for Wales through his Newport-born mother, Sorba has made it no secret of how much representing the Dragons would mean to himself and his family, and how keen he is to make his mother proud by playing for the country. With a long history of Welsh internationals representing Huddersfield Town over the years, Thomas will become our 12th player to earn a cap for Cymru should he make his international debut in their next two fixtures.

Joining the likes of Steve Jenkins, Joel Lynch and Iwan Roberts in playing for Wales whilst at Town, Sorba could become the fifth full international in the current Huddersfield squad – Jordan Rhodes (Scotland), Frazier Campbell (England) and Duane Holmes (USA) have all played for their country in the past, and Danel Sinani (Luxembourg) is currently a regular for the Red Lions - with both Scott High (Scotland) and Levi Colwill (England) recently called up at Under 21 level.

Everybody at the club would like to extend our congratulations to Sorba, and wish him good luck for the upcoming international break!
