THE ‘WORTHINGTON WALK’ – SIGN UP NOW!

22-mile walk in memory of Frank Worthington

- Event to take place on Saturday 16 October 2021
- Walk to commemorate Frank Worthington’s life and career
- Funds to be split between Alzheimer’s Society & Yorkshire Air Ambulance

We’re proud to launch the ‘Worthington Walk’ in honour of Club legend Frank Worthington, sponsored by new Club associate partner, Deliveree.

In memory of his amazing career and life, and after working closely with the Worthington family, a 22-mile sponsored walk in his name will take place on Saturday 16 October 2021.

Frank enjoyed a fantastic playing career that spanned across nearly three decades both in club and international football.

He was among the most elegant of all Town players on the ball, with his trademark look of sideburns, no shinpads and wearing his socks low around his ankles, leading Town manager Ian Greaves to describe him as ‘the working man’s George Best’.

The walk will take in some of Frank’s other former clubs in the region. Starting at Leeds United’s Elland Road, participants will make their way to FC Halifax Town’s The Shay, before finishing at the John Smith’s Stadium in time for Town’s scheduled Sky Bet Championship game against Hull City (3pm kick-off). This will mean a 4.15am start with coaches taking you from the John Smith’s Stadium to Elland Road.

For supporters who want to get involved but would prefer to walk a shorter distance, we are offering a second starting point at The Shay, which is a 7.5 mile walk to the John Smith’s Stadium. Please note that although the distance is shorter, there are still some challenging hills to navigate.

All participants are asked to raise a minimum sponsorship of £100 per person, with proceeds to be split equally between the Alzheimer’s Society and the Yorkshire Air Ambulance.

The registration fee for the full 22-mile walk is £25, and £15 for the 7.5-mile route.

Refreshments, coach travel to Elland Road (for the longer walk), an event t-shirt, First Aid support, and a support team are all included in the registration fee.

All participants will be emailed with an information pack with the timings, route, fundraising information, where to get the coach from and further information in due course.

Huddersfield Town Chairman Phil Hodgkinson commented:

“It’s fantastic that we’ve been able to launch this event in memory of such an incredible man.

“We didn’t get the chance to say a proper goodbye to Frank and acknowledge the impact that he made on our, and many other, football clubs during his time as a player.

“Not only that, but he continued to impact them even after his career had ended.

“Frank was a regular spectator at the John Smith’s Stadium, right until the pandemic hit.

“To be able to commemorate his life with those he inspired is hugely important to us as a Club.”

Huddersfield Town Club Ambassador Andy Booth added:

“It’s been a difficult 18 months for us all, being away from our families and the things we love.

“It’ll be great to see as many Town fans as possible join together to pay tribute to such a legend and raise funds for two amazing charities in his name.

“Huge thanks to Deliveree for their sponsorship of our event.

“Please, if you’re in a position to do so, get involved and help us make this an event to remember.”
