Huddersfield Town Head Coach Carlos Corberán was pleased with his team’s performance against Stoke City, despite finishing on the wrong end of a 2-1 result in the Sky Bet Championship.
Having taken the lead through Harry Toffolo early in the second half, Stoke hit back almost immediately from a corner before an awkward low ball found its way past Lee Nicholls via Matty Pearson.
With the equaliser coming so soon after Huddersfield took the lead, Corberán acknowledged that his team came up against strong opposition:
“I think in the first half we saw some positive moments in attack, but not enough chances from our perspective. We were watching the team defending more than attacking.
“We didn’t concede many chances, apart from maybe one cross towards the end of the half, but I think we managed well against, for me, one of the best squads in the league.
“We tried to change that in the second-half, and we saw the team pressing and playing the game more in the offensive half, creating more chances.
“It’s important that after you score a goal to keep a level of concentration, but they had one corner and we knew they had very good players to finish this action, and they scored a good goal.”
The Head Coach was keen to reiterate his belief and confidence in the group ahead of Tuesday’s trip to Blackpool.
“This was a situation that I know my players can avoid perfectly, I know the level we have in this type of set-piece situation, but we didn’t and after scoring they had the feeling that they were more in the game in that moment.
“We saw a very positive reaction from the team after the goal, trying to get something positive from the game but unfortunately we didn’t score from any of the opportunities we had.
“I trust a lot in my squad and I trust the players that I have. When we come to stadium’s I am full of confidence in our team.”
