TOWN WOMEN TRAVEL TO WEST BROM

10 October 2021

Town Women on the road again

- Town Women looking to win third consecutive game
- Manager Steve Appleton is ready for the challenge
- Huddersfield fans can attend game; 2pm kick-off

Huddersfield Town Women are back in FA Women's National League action on Sunday 10 October 2021 as they go on the road for the second game in a row when they face West Bromwich Albion at Sutton Coldfield FC.

The Terriers will be looking for their third consecutive win in the league following a 5-1 and 6-0 win against Stoke City and Sheffield FC respectively. A win could send Steve Appleton's side up third in the table depending on other results.

West Bromwich Women are currently eighth in the FAWNL Northern Premier Division. The Baggies are winless in their last two games; picking up draws against Brighouse Town and Nottingham Forest. They will be looking to get back to winning ways at home.

Town Women Manager, Steve Appleton, believes consistency is key.

“We're always looking to work on a game plan to suit each game.

“During the previous two matches, we've been able to stick to what we have worked on at training and things have clicked into place for us - so we'll be looking to maintain our current form and try and get a positive result on Sunday.”

Last season saw a five-goal thriller between both sides as town was the right side of a 3-2 scoreline at the Stafflex Arena. A four-minute comeback towards the end of the game saw Brittany Sanderson and Laura Elford overturn the score to punish ten-player West Brom. With both players being in good goal scoring form this season, it is likely to be another entertaining match.

The Terriers have scored 20 goals in their last four matches in all competitions and the previous clean sheet is bound to have boosted the whole team’s confidence.

Appleton has seen the positives on the pitch.

"We've spent time looking at how we can improve our build-up play to allow our midfield players to combine with the strikers and get into the opposition box.

“We've seen more of that during the last few games, both through goals and assists so it's important we continue to do that.”

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Sanderson is in tremendous form scoring seven in her last four matches (nine overall this season), playing a pivotal role in Huddersfield Town's recent form.

With a clear eye for goal and her shooting boots well and truly on let's hope she adds to her tally against West Brom.

Meanwhile for the Baggies, Leigh Dugmore is current the top scorer for the Midlands side.

Scoring three in her last five games will make her a target for Steve Appleton to plan against.
