Huddersfield Town defender Tom Lees says AFC Bournemouth proved why they’re top of the Sky Bet Championship table following the Terriers’ 3-0 defeat at the Vitality Stadium.

It was a frustrating game for the Terriers, who struggled to get into the game.

Speaking to HTTV post-match, Lees gave his verdict on the match.

“I think we played against a team who’s top level in this division.

“From the chances that they had I thought they were really really clinical.

“We didn’t get off to a good start, but saying that we had some counter attacks ourselves and got into some good positions on the break and we didn’t make the most of them either.

“Both boxes got punished for that lack of ruthlessness.”

The defender that despite the result, there’s a lot that him and his teammates will be able to take from the game.

“We need to take it on the chin, accept that we’ve had praise in the last few weeks, and now accept that we’ll probably get some criticism.

“We need to realise where we’ve got to and realise where we need to get to to be one of the best times in the division.

“We’ve been shown that today, but I think the main thing is that we’ve competed, we’ve given it our all and we just weren’t good enough in both boxes today.”

Town are back in action on Saturday 30 October 2021, when they welcome Millwall to the John Smith’s Stadium. Lees commented on the upcoming fixture.

“There’s not many teams as good as Bournemouth in the league – they’ve gone on this run that they’ve gone on for a reason – and we’ve got to quickly get back on it now.

“I know that the manager will have us in this week working hard like he always does and analysing what went wrong.

“We’ve got a week to prepare for Millwall now, and then three games really quickly.”
