The Blue & White Foundation was set up at the start of the 2003/04 season, as a way of allowing fans to contribute to their Club and its Academy after administration. Reminiscing on the 2003/04 campaign, Jackson had plenty to say about it.
“I remember everything about it.
“It was just an incredible season.
“If you speak to any of the players or the staff who were involved, it was such a memorable season.
“To turn up at Storthes Hall, I think the actual player count was seven who turned up, who’d have thought that five weeks later the season would start, and we’d go on and win promotion with one of the youngest sides ever.
“It was just an incredible sort of feeling.
“Still now, when I see clips of it and pictures of it, it just brings me back to the day that I was Manager.
“It was one of the most memorable seasons ever.”
Town’s Academy players stepped up to help the First Team that season, and Jackson discussed how grateful he was Town’s youngsters were able to make the step up.
“I had no money to spend on players.
“My sole objective was to pick a team that could go out on the pitch and play a game, so at times I had to pick players from the Academy because I just simply didn’t have enough players.
“Luckily, it paid off! I remember going to MK Dons away, and nine outfield players were from the Academy – that was incredible really!
“We drew 2-2, and I was so so proud of the young players.
“Obviously, I had senior players playing, but the young players were inspirational.”
Jackson went on to discuss why the introduction of the Blue & White Foundation was an important moment for the Club, and still is.
“I had the first ticket! My number was 001.
“The prize at the first Blue & White Foundation draw was £10,000.
“I went upstairs to press the button, and my sister-in-law won it!
“Out of all those tickets, it was hers!
“The supporters kept this Club alive.
“When I took over, there was no money available, and it was just an incredible year where everything came together.
“I look back and the supporters were a credit to me, a credit to the Club, and they can be really proud of the money they raised through the Blue & White Foundation to bring all those young players through.
“It was just magical.”
Haven’t bought your ticket yet, or are debating joining Blue & White? Peter has some words for you!
“Please come down!
“Please come down and let me press that button, and hopefully you’ll win the money like my sister-in-law did!
“I’m really looking forward to it.
“I’ve seen maybe 10 of them over the years.
“When you’ve been involved in football, you always say you’ll stay in touch and then never do, but when you meet up it’s like nothing’s changed.
“It’ll be like that on Wednesday 3 November!
“I still think that team and the season didn’t get enough praise and the accolades that it should have done really.
“It’ll be great to see everybody again.”
