The Blue & White Foundation was set up at the start of the 2003/04 season, as a way of allowing fans to contribute to their Club and its Academy after administration. Reminiscing on the 2003/04 campaign, Schofield admitted it was definitely one to remember!

“It was one of the most memorable seasons of my footballing career. We got promoted from League 2 to League 1 at the Millennium Stadium! I have fantastic memories.

“In the moment, I don’t think you actually realise how big a deal it is, whereas when you reflect on it at the end of the season and after the promotion, you realise it was a pretty amazing time.

“A lot of the young players had grown up through the Academy age groups together and gone on a journey together and went on to achieve that success with the promotion.

“I think when you reflect on those moments, they’re really powerful.”

Town’s Academy players played a vital role in the Terriers’ success that season, something which Schofield says you can never overlook.

“We have these discussions all the time – you don’t know if a young player is ready until they’re thrown into a situation.

“We have a lot of strong First Team players right now and our squad is really strong and really competitive, which makes it more difficult for the B Team lads to get that opportunity.

“I think in a way that makes it even better, because they’ve got to grow more and grow quicker.

“They’ve got to start watching what the First Team are doing and trying to be better than these First Team players, so they think it’s more of a challenge.”

Town’s Assistant Coach went on to explain that the introduction of Blue & White Foundation was a very important moment for the Club, and still is.

“I think it’s a very special thing when fans are involved in their Club and helping their young players on their journeys through.

“It’s very kind and very generous that the fans support the Club in that way financially.

“I think it’s just as important now, because there is a lot of focus on the B Team and we feel as though we’ve got a lot of young players here with potential.”

“The B Team is a real focus and the coaching staff and everyone else in the Club are working hard to give these players opportunities to be a success.”

Wednesday 3 November 2021 will see Danny reunited with some of his old teammates, including Paul Rachubka, David Mirfin, Efe Sodje and Nathan Clarke to name a few.

“I don’t think I’ve done a reunion before with ex-players, so it’ll be my first one!

“Sometimes it’s difficult when you go on your own journey, you don’t keep in touch with people as much as you should do, so it’ll be great to see some familiar faces – particularly Peter Jackson!

“He gave me my opportunity in football really, coming from non-league and signing an 18-month contract.

“I’m sure we’ll all have a great laugh on the night, especially at Boothy!”

Haven’t bought your ticket yet, or are debating joining Blue & White? Schofield has some words for you!

“This is a one-of-a-kind event. You won’t have another 2003/04 squad reunion anytime soon.

“It’s a great way to come and see the ex-players, ask some questions, hear some stories, and just build a connection.

“I think it’s important that the Club grows together with the fans, the staff, ex-players, and that’s the real power in football. For clubs that can create that, it’s really special.

“Plus, you’re supporting the young players while you’re at it!”
