Having fallen two goals down in the first half after a fast Middlesbrough start, Town were unable to recover the result, despite Boro scoring an own goal late on.
Duncan Watmore provided both first half goals as Chris Wilder’s men got the better of Town in the opening 45 minutes, scoring twice on the break and giving his side the cushion they required to earn three points.
Town improved after the break, but were unable to create the chances required to change the direction of the result. With almost the last kick of the game Boro put through their own goal, with the ball first deflecting off Hernadez before being turned in by Daniels in goal.
A disappointing result, Town will look to improve next Saturday afternoon away to Barnsley at Oakwell.
