Huddersfield Town's Young Terriers are in EFL Youth Alliance Cup Semi-Final action on Tuesday (30 March 2021) when they host Grimsby Town at Canalside.

The Young Terriers beat Walsall 7-1 in the Quarter-Finals in February 2021 thanks to goals from Conor Falls, Etienne Camara, Pat Jones (x2) and Brahima Diarra (x3).

Reflecting on his side’s Quarter-Final victory, Under-17s Coach George Danaher was quick to comment on the youngsters’ performance.

“These cup competitions are a good experience; we controlled the game from start to finish and we were ruthless in attack.

“That’s really important and it’s something we’ve been working on so it’s fantastic to score the goals that we did.

“The defensive duties don’t go unnoticed also. The back four did fantastically in the game and that helped us build into our attacks and win the game.”

He also spoke about the Under-17s’ game programme, in which they play a mixture of development matches, focused on training exercises, and performance matches, where the main focus is the win, and how this helps develop the Young Terriers into professionals.

“At every age you want to be playing the best games, and as you progress through the rounds in a competition like the EFL Youth Alliance Cup, the better games there are.

“As staff, we put the demand on the players to win these Cup games and by adding that pressure we’re helping build the games up for the players and recreate that feeling of a real cup tie in men’s football.

“We won’t accept conceding from set pieces and not having good balance behind the ball and that’s what the cup games are about if you want to win.

“When it comes to the development games, we try and experiment with things. Whether that’s implementing our training exercises in the game or learning to play through different scenarios and playing really brave football.”

The winner of Tuesday's Semi-Final will go on to face Rochdale in the EFL Youth Alliance Cup Northern Final.

The game kicks off at 12noon and you can follow match build-up as well as live updates over on the official Academy Twitter; @htafcacademy.
