Young midfielder’s season so far

- A look at Huddersfield Town youngster Josh Austerfield
- Young Terrier made his competitive debut against Rochdale
- Midfielder made his first professional start against Plymouth Argyle

19-year-old midfielder Josh Austerfield is this week’s B Team In Focus player!

Austerfield made his first professional start for Huddersfield Town against Plymouth Argyle in the FA Cup on Saturday 9 January 2021.

Plymouth was the youngsters second inclusion in Town’s match day squad, having made his competitive Town debut against Rochdale in the Carabao Cup on Saturday 5 September 2020 when he came on as a 79th minute substitute for Danny Ward.

Since his start, Austerfield has been an unused substitute against Watford.

As well as his First Team involvement, this season has seen the midfielder play a key part in Town’s Academy, making 23 appearances across both the B Team and Under-19s, who he often captains.

He also joined BetVictor Northern Premier League side Hyde United on loan in December 2020 to gain further senior experience, but this was cut short without him playing a game as Hyde’s season was stopped due to the current Coronavirus pandemic.

The youngster is one of Town’s longest-serving scholars, having joined the Academy at Under-8 level from junior club Drighlington. He signed a new long-term contract in October 2020 that secures him to Town until the summer of 2024.
