A historic moment – Huddersfield Town won the FA Cup for the first time back in 1922 and the Terriers’ 2021/22 home kit pays tribute to that.
After working with Umbro, the shirt brings a modern-day twist on the jersey worn by the Club 100 years ago in an incredibly successful season!
Huddersfield Town and Umbro work closely together to reignite legacies, and this season the pair have done it like no other as players and fans will be “wearing history”.
As we look back on Town’s 1922 FA Cup run, we start at Turf Moor where Town drew 2-2 away at Burnley. The First Round game when to a replay, which the Terriers ran out 3-2 winners, thanks to a brace from Stephenson and a strike from Mann.
The Second Round and Third Round games also went to replays! In the Second Round, Town drew 0-0 away at Brighton before goals from Stephenson and Richardson earned Town a 2-0 win. In the Third Round the Terriers drew 1-1 with Blackburn before beating them 5-0 at home!
Town beat Millwall 3-1 in the Quarter-Finals, which set up a return to Turf Moor in the Semis against Notts County! Goals from Mann, Smith and Stephenson sealed the win over the Magpies.
That win set-up the FA Cup Final against Preston North End at Chelsea’s Stamford Bridge – the second time Town reached this stage of the competition!
In a closely fought game, Herbert Chapman’s men just ran out winners! The game was decided by a penalty kick, which was converted by Huddersfield Town legend Billy Smith! 100 years later, Billy’s Great Granddaughter Mollie (above) modelled the 2021/22 kit!
Town went on to appear in the FA Cup Final three times after 1922 but finished runners-up in all of them.
