Huddersfield Town’s 2021/22 campaign kicks-off with a trip to Hillsborough Stadium to face Sheffield Wednesday in Round One of the Carabao Cup on Sunday 1 August 2021; 1pm kick-off.

Sunday will be the second League Cup meeting between the two sides. The first came in 1984, when the Terriers won 4-2 on aggregate.

Sheffield Wednesday made it to the Third Round last season before being knocked out, losing 2-0 to Fulham.

THE OPPOSITION

Last season, Sheffield Wednesday were handed a 12-point reduction, which was eventually reduced to 6, at the start of the 2020/21 season and were relegated at the end of the campaign with 41 points.

Managed by Darren Moore, the Owls will be looking to put 2020/21 behind them and secure their place back in the Sky Bet Championship at the first attempt.

There will be a few familiar faces for Town fans on Sunday; one being former Town defender Jaden Brown, who signed for the Owls at the start of the month.

ONES TO WATCH

Lewis Wing

The attacking midfielder is one of the Owls’ summer signings ahead of the 2021/22 season, joining on a season-long loan from Middlesbrough. The 26-year-old split his 2020/21 campaign across Middlesbrough and Rotherham United. He made 46 appearances across both clubs, scoring three goals and getting two assists.

Josh Windass

Windass – a former Town Academy player – made the move to Sheffield Wednesday from Wigan Athletic in September 2020, following a loan spell in the 2019/20 season. The striker’s first goal as a permanent player came on the opening day of the season, in the Owls’ away win against Cardiff City. He went on to win the Club’s Player of the Month award for September, having scored two goals in five appearances.

Barry Bannan

The 31-year-old signed for the Owls in the summer of 2015 from Crystal Palace. The midfielder was made Captain at the start of the 2020/21 season, and signed a new contract extending his stay at the Club until 2023. He started every game for Sheffield Wednesday last season, and was voted the Club’s Player of the Season.
