Huddersfield Town’s Duane Holmes says he’s excited with the progress the team are making following his goal against Southport.
Holmes played the first half of Town’s second pre-season friendly, and got on the scoresheet minutes before the break with a fantastic solo effort.
Speaking to #HTTV after the game, the attacker discussed how happy he is to be back on the pitch, especially in front of the fans for the first time in 18 months.
“That’s what pre-season’s about – getting the most out of what you can do,” he said. “It was really hot, and it was nice to get minutes. The lads that came off at half time wanted to stay on and get some more, but obviously there is a lot more games to play and it was nice to be back out there, especially in front of the fans.
“Last season was difficult for everyone hopefully we’re out of the worst of it and we can get back to playing in front of our fans again, which we’ve missed. It gives us a massive boost and it’s really nice to see people back at the games.”
He also spoke of how excited he is to see what Carlos’ side can do in the upcoming season, with a number of new team members also impressing today.
“It’s nice to score, but in pre-season it’s about getting the minutes in your legs and working as hard as you can, and we’ve done that today.
“We knew as a group last year that we wanted to improve, we did speak about it and the signings that we’ve made are brilliant lads, they’ve fit in well and it’s just about working hard now and that’ll get us points in the season, I’m sure.”
Holmes also recently announced on social media he is to become father and revealed his joy to be back playing for his hometown club.
“I love this place, Yorkshire is my home, it’s where I was brought up and just little things like being able to go out with my dog every morning and just appreciate living where I’m from, it’s just massive for me.”
