Huddersfield Town midfielder Jonathan Hogg says he’s delighted to have been handed the captain’s armband for the 2021/22 Sky Bet Championship season.
Hoggy, who has captained Town on many occasions over the last few years, takes over the reins from Christopher Schindler, who departed the Club over the summer.
Catching up with #HTTV, Town’s no.6 discussed how it feels to be given the responsibility.
“I think that I’ve got a good relationship with Carlos, in the dressing room with the players, and certainly with the fans.
“I’ve been here a long time now and it’s really nice to be the leader and captain the ship.
“The last two or three years hasn’t been so comfortable and now I’m trying to drive it in the right direction.”
At the end of last season, Hoggy was awarded with both the Hargreaves Memorial Player of the Year trophy, and the Blue & White Foundation Player of the Year.
“It feels amazing! I’m chuffed with that.
“It’s not often that I win… I won it two/three years ago to be fair, which is quite good.
“To win both of them means a lot to me.
“It shows that the fans have really seen the work that I put in for the team and I do it for them as much as for myself, so it’s always nice to get something back.”
The midfielder also took the time to discuss the importance of pre-season friendlies ahead of Saturday’s game against Harrogate Town.
“I think it’ll be a tough game.
“It’s the same for everyone in pre-season, you put the work in to get the miles in your legs and make sure you’re sharp for the season.
“I’m not sure what to expect, but we shouldn’t worry too much about them, we need to worry about ourselves and what we’ve been working on and make sure we do it right and make sure we start off really well.”
