REPORT: TOWN B 2–4 SALFORD CITY

23 January 2021

Town’s B Team beaten in second half

- Huddersfield Town B were beaten 4-2 by Salford City
- Second half goals secured Salford’s victory
- Brace from Jaden Brown

Jaden Brown netted a double as Huddersfield Town’s B Team were beaten 4-2 by Salford City at Canalside on Saturday afternoon.

Brown’s goals came either side of Mo Touray’s brace in a nine-minute flurry at the end of the first half.

However, Town were unable to find the target in the second period, ultimately being made to rue their missed efforts as City struck twice late on.

Town had the game’s first major opportunity as Sam Peplow powered a Will McCamley floated delivery against the frame of the goal.

Moments later, Salford went close from range, forcing Nicholas Bilokapic into a smart save, which he held at the second attempt.

Micah Obiero then went close a quarter into the fixture. An over-struck corner fell to the feet of McCamley who drilled the ball into the centre where Obiero miscued his effort wide.

McCamley continued his sprite start to the game to provide Matty Daly with a neat cut-back, however, Daly saw his effort deflect narrowly wide of the far corner.

Bilokapic then was forced into a tremendous save from a City free-kick to keep the scores level.

On 27 minutes, his opposite number one was called into action on the counter. Scott High threaded the ball through to Peplow, who accelerated away from his marker but saw his effort thwarted by the legs of the ‘keeper.

Town’s persistence paid off after the half-hour mark, taking the lead through Brown, who steered High’s cross into the right-hand corner.

However, just four minutes later, Salford turned the game on its head, with two goals in two minutes from the bright Touray.

The Young Terriers levelled the game just before the break. Brown slalomed past several challenges before ending his sublime run with an equally excellent finish, driving the ball across goal and into the bottom corners.

The second half was starved of many clear-cut chances, but the hosts held onto the ball well in large spells.

On the hour mark, Town almost went back ahead through Obiero. Interchanging play between McCamley and High allowed the latter to cut the ball back to Kit Elliott. The forward held possession before laying the ball into the path of Obiero, whose thunderous attempt crashed against the crossbar before being cleared.

The Ammies were then denied their third of the afternoon due to a raised offside flag from the linesman.

Town continued the press for the winner, with Brahima Diarra going to close, but he saw his curling effort cannon to safety off the back of a City defender.

Despite the Young Terriers’ dominance in possession, Salford fired home their third with 16 minutes remaining.

Then with the Town pressing even higher, City cemented the win by rounding Bilokapic on the counter and rolling home the fourth and final goal in the 85th minute.
