Huddersfield Town Head Coach Carlos Corberán believes his side had enough chances to take all three points against Stoke City.

The Terriers went ahead against the Potters before Steven Fletcher equalised from the penalty spot. After going down to 10-men when Rhys Norrington-Davies was sent off, Town dominated the proceedings but couldn’t find a winner.

When speaking after the game, Corberán analysed the result and detailed why he thought the Terriers only picked up a point.

“It’s clear that we wanted the three points. We dominated the game from the first minutes. After we scored the goal, we continued dominating the game. We should’ve used the first half to unbalance the result.

“After 20 minutes some mistakes happened where we were in the conditions to avoid them. We had mistakes in attack and defence.

“We conceded an action that was a penalty that we shouldn’t concede because we are in conditions to avoid this action and at the same time to unbalance the game more in the first half. At the end of the first half they lost one player, which was a clear red card for the opponent.

“In the second half you can’t demand more because we stopped their counter attack. We were playing with one player more and we created some options that aren’t easy to create because they are more compact.

“For me, we didn’t show enough of our midfielders trying to finish in the middle because for me in the last action they should arrive, fixing players in the midfielders, not waiting for the cross. This type of action helped them protect the result they have. We had enough options to change the result.”

Town had 71% possession, efforts cleared off the line and that hit the woodwork but were unable to find a winner. Carlos explained his frustrations after the game.

“When you’re dominating one opponent, everything depends on you dominating or not. They changed shape and we made some mistakes in the build. If we didn’t do this mistake, we would’ve created more chances; that is the only option I can control, to try and help the team to create more options.

“After, of course, we need to take the responsibility with the finish of the action. It’s important for us to create options to score a goal. We created enough options to unbalance the result. We didn’t do that well and that’s why we didn’t get the three points we needed and wanted today.”
