Huddersfield Town Head Coach Carlos Corberán says the Terriers are determined to convert a good performance into a positive result against Stoke City on Saturday.

Town go into Saturday’s Sky Bet Championship meeting with the Potters at the John Smith’s Stadium looking for their first points of the calendar year.

Despite a valiant effort at a comeback in the defeat to Bristol City last time out, the Terriers remain without a point so far in 2021 but it’s something that Carlos says everyone at the Club is continuing to work to change during this weekend's game.

“The mentality of the team is exactly the same (despite the recent defeats),” explained Carlos when speaking to the media on Friday afternoon.

“We have five defeats in a row, four in the league, and so we need to do better.

“We always have to work hard and that’s why I think the lads played the second half they did the other day trying to change the result.

“This is the mentality to work hard and get the results we can get.

“We are always going to play with a high level of ambition and determination to get the results we want.”

Carlos is hoping his side can get back to winning ways against a side that will also be looking for their first victory of 2021 during Saturday’s meeting at the John Smith’s Stadium.

Despite that, Town’s Head Coach has been impressed with the weekend’s visitors and says their recent results don’t tell the full story.

“I am waiting to play against one team that are doing well.

“They are adapting well in the 4-3-3, I think it’s the right formation for the players they have in the squad.

“They are more stable in that shape and have been getting some defeats that they didn't deserve.

“They are improving, it will be another challenging game that we will look to face with all our strengths.”

Speaking during his pre-match press conference on Friday afternoon, Carlos also provided the latest team news, including an update on the availability of new signing Duane Holmes who joined from Derby County earlier in the week.

“He (Duane Holmes) has been working now two days with the group, he was training before with Derby so he has the habits, but he doesn’t have the same habits as his teammates yet.

“Today (Friday) will be his third day, he couldn’t work with the players in the first XI yet. Today will be the most important day with the squad, he will need more training sessions.

“The positive thing with good players is they can adapt quickly to any scenario.

“Danny Ward continues with the same process of the recovery. We think we can have him in the next week,” Carlos added.

“The progression of (Jonathan) Hogg is positive. He is going to train for the first time tomorrow and he won’t be involved tomorrow.

“Fortunately, there are no more injuries from Tuesday, and we will have the same squad (as at Bristol City).”
