Canadian international adds strength to First Team goalkeeping
- Huddersfield Town signs Jayson Leutwiler
- Goalkeeper joins the Club until the end of the season
- Canadian international has been training with the Terriers
Huddersfield Town has completed the signing of goalkeeper Jayson Leutwiler on a contract that runs until the end of the current season!
A 6’ 4” tall Canada international, he joins the Club as a free agent having departed Sky Bet League 1 side Fleetwood Town earlier this month, where he made 18 starts during the first half of the current campaign.
Born in Switzerland, 31-year-old Leutwiler lists FC Basel, Middlesbrough, Blackburn Rovers and Shrewsbury Town among his former clubs, playing over 300 senior games in his career to date.
He has been training with Town’s First Team since becoming a free agent, working alongside Ryan Schofield and Joel Pereira under the guidance of Head of Goalkeeping Paul Clements.
Huddersfield Town’s Head of Football Operations Leigh Bromby explained:
“With Ben Hamer departing earlier this month, we had a desire to add a third senior goalkeeper to the group to ensure we have the right level of competition and depth between now and the end of the season.
“Jayson arrives at the Club with good experience and having played regularly in League 1 during the first half of the season. It’s his job to show us what he can do every day and to push Ryan Schofield, the current incumbent of the number one shirt.”
Head of Goalkeeping Paul Clements added:
“Jayson arrived here with glowing references from everyone I spoke to and, having had him in the building for a week, I can see why. He’s a very able goalkeeper and he’s been fantastic around the training ground. It’s no surprise that he has hit the ground running, as he has played regularly in League 1 ahead of his arrival.
“He becomes the senior goalkeeper in our group and has good experience, so his job is to push Ryan and Joel hard every day and to set the standards for them.”
