Head Coach Carlos Corberán says there is a chance new signing Yaya Sanogo could make his Huddersfield Town debut against Preston North End on Saturday.

The French forward, who joined the Terriers as a free agent in midweek, trained for the first time with the squad at Canalside on Thursday and is a player the Spaniard may have at his disposal for the weekend’s game against the Lilywhites.

Despite not playing a competitive match for nearly 12 months, Town’s Head Coach has been impressed with the 28-year-old’s fitness and says the signing of the former Arsenal forward will be a positive for his side in the final few months of the campaign.

“It's important to have another striker, especially one who has a totally different profile in terms of his body and his skills,” Carlos said in his pre-match press conference on Friday afternoon.

“It means we can play longer and finish crosses which is another option for us in attack.

“He's good with his head and allows us to go over the midfield and avoid the press.

“We are going to see how he reacts today in the training. He has been working with a team, it’s different playing the games to the training.

“He has not played for nearly a year but at the same time, he has been in a training dynamic.

“I have been watching one player who I don’t think was fatigued when in the team training yesterday.”

Speaking of strikers, Carlos also provided an update on Fraizer Campbell on Friday afternoon who will be fit for the trip to the north west at the weekend despite being forced off during Tuesday’s game against Derby.

“He is in a good condition. It was like a stomach virus; he didn’t feel well.

“Maybe I should have done the change before minute 45 but Campbell has a character where even when he doesn’t feel well, he wants to help and fight for the team.”

The Spaniard also gave a general team news update with regards to how the squad is shaping up ahead of Saturday’s game at Deepdale.

"Jonathan Hogg is still unavailable.

"Isaac Mbenza didn't train before Derby. He's been working with the team the last three days and now he could start on Saturday.

"Richard Stearman is another option we have with the centre-backs."

The Terriers go into the match looking to get back to winning ways against the side that currently occupy 14th spot in the Sky Bet Championship table.

Alex Neil’s Lilywhites took all three points in the reverse fixture at the John Smith’s Stadium in October and are a side that Carlos believes will be strong opposition on Saturday.

“Preston is a team that I respect a lot. I respect the coach a lot, he has a strong determination in what they do.

“They have been working with him a long time. This year, they are not always taking the result you expect with the way they compete.

“They are one of the teams that press the best in the Championship. I imagine one very challenging game.”
