Head Coach previews midweek game against the Rams

Carlos Corberán says that Harry Toffolo will miss Huddersfield Town’s trip to Derby County on Tuesday evening with a back injury.

The full-back was set to be available for selection again having served a three-game suspension for his sending off at Luton earlier in the month, but his return to action has been put on hold due to a back problem, according to Town’s Head Coach.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of Tuesday’s meeting with the Rams, Carlos ruled out Toffolo’s return in the midweek encounter and said Jonathan Hogg is also a doubt for the trip to Pride Park with an injury sustained during Saturday’s win over Swansea City.

“Toffolo has now completed his three-game suspension, but he won’t be involved with the team because he’s going to be out with a back problem for around six weeks,” he said.

“He didn’t train before he played against Luton because he had some pain, but I always say that some can keep playing because of their character.

“From the previous game, Hogg is going to be a doubt, I don’t expect to have him,” Carlos added.

“He has a small problem in the calf. He received a kick in the game and was fine but after the game he started to feel something. He’s having a scan now.”

Whilst providing the latest team news, Carlos also had an update on Christopher Schindler’s recovery with the defender having surgery on a knee problem that has kept him on the sideline since early December.

Like Schindler, Danny Ward will also miss the game in the Midlands, but Isaac Mbenza could be in contention to return for the visit to the Rams.

“Schindler has had a small surgery to accelerate his recovery process. This will be 8-10 weeks before he is with the team,” Carlos explained.

“Danny Ward continues working with the medical staff, I don’t think he will be involved in the next week.

“Isaac can train today (Monday) with the group and depending on the feeling, he could be involved tomorrow.”

Looking ahead to Tuesday’s game, Town come up against a Rams side who have five wins from their eight games since new Manager Wayne Rooney was appointed permanently last month.

Carlos has been impressed with Derby in recent weeks under Rooney, a side that currently sit two points and a place behind Town, but says the Terriers have to keep the focus on themselves when looking to take all three points from the Midlands on Tuesday evening.

“I think he is doing an excellent job as a coach, he has taken them to a more comfortable position in the table.

“He plays with a different style to the previous coach and he has his team organised in defence as well as good in the attack and at using set pieces.

“I don’t think they deserved to lose their last game (against Watford).

"The most important thing for us though is to add three points. We need to play the game with a lot of determination and use our strengths on the pitch."
