SORBA: THAT WAS A TEAM PERFORMANCE

Goalscorer reflects on the 3-2 win over Blackpool

Sorba Thomas credited the entire team after scoring twice to secure a come-from-behind 3-2 win over Blackpool on Boxing Day.

Usually known for his assists, the Wales international scored his first goals since the 4-0 win over Reading in August to secure another three points for the Terriers.

“I’m not the goalscorer in the team – I leave that to the strikers by giving them the ball!” Sorba joked post-match.

“Today was a collective team performance. We knew how dangerous they are on the counterattack, and we didn’t deal with it in the first half, but the Head Coach talked to us. We wanted to make them fear us and we thought we saw where a weakness was, so we attacked it.”

The game didn’t start well, with an uncharacteristic error in possession leading to a Blackpool opener. However, Sorba believes those errors can happen as Town try to play out.

“Leesy is a top defender – I hope he gets well soon – and we know that (can happen) when we play the style that the Head Coach wants us to. We’re not going to change that – we want to play football. When we make a mistake, we learn from it.

“Tom was perfect after that, and it was all about the reaction. I felt like that game was in our hands despite the sloppy second goal and it was there for us to win. I think we showed what we’re really about in the second half.

“Pre-season was massive for us. We did a lot of running and although we complained about it at the time, you can now see how fit we are! I think you can see a difference between us and other teams.”

Sorba believes his brace today showed a different side to his game.

“I asked Wardy if this is what it feels like when you score - I think I need to score more! Everyone jokes around with me that I don’t make the back post enough and (Josh) Koroma jokes about my stepovers, but today it worked. I can come inside and link play, and Jordan (Rhodes) is like a wall to play against – he’s lovely to play with! I’ve worked hard, as I wasn’t in the best of form recently, and I’m gaining that form – like the team.

“It’s a massive three points for us today. The season has been up and down, but we’re getting a bit of form now with two wins on the bounce. It’s about keeping that momentum.”
