Town travelled to the City Ground to face Nottingham Forest away in our final fixture of 2021, claiming all three points in a perfect end to the year.
An entertaining, fast paced, end-to-end encounter that burst in to life in the opening minute as Sorba Thomas struck the frame of the goal from a full 25 yards, there was little slowing down from then on in.
With both sides intent on attacking in the opening exchanges, it was Town who took the lead through Duane Holmes in what was improbably the only goal of the game. Finishing off yet another Harry Toffolo cross - his fourth assist in as many games - Holmes showed great close control before blasting the Terriers ahead off his left boot.
Forest had chances of their own, most notably through Philip Zinckernagel who saw his fierce drive rebound back in to play off the underside of the crossbar. Town had their own chances to extend their lead as well, with Danel Sinani unable to convert from close range after being played in by Jordan Rhodes after the forward won the ball back in a dangerous area after pressing well.
Despite a nervous last few minutes, Town defended valiantly, ensuring a three match winning streak to end 2021, adding yet another impressive victory to their collection as we enter the second half of the Sky Bet Championship season.
