Huddersfield Town’s Lee Nicholls says being back in front of the fans makes today’s Carabao Cup victory over Sheffield Wednesday even more worthwhile.

The goalkeeper made his competitive debut for the Terriers on Sunday afternoon, which saw him play 90 minutes and save two penalties to send Town through to the Second Round.

Speaking to #HTTV after the game, Nicholls was quick to comment on how he found it.

“Very good to be honest!

“It’s the start of a long, long season.

“We’ve set the marker now as a team.

“It was a good performance, we had good chances, we looked solid in defence.

“It’s something to build on, it’s a step in the right direction, so let’s do it!”

Sunday’s season opener saw Town fans back on a larger scale, and the ‘keeper says having the fans behind him again was a great feeling.

“It was really good.

“As soon as I stepped out of the tunnel I saw both sets of fans and both sets of players.

“I got goosebumps!

“It’s something we haven’t had for a while, it’s so good to have them back and long may it continue.”

Nicholls also mentioned that when the final whistle blew and he knew it was going to penalties, he felt no pressure.

“Personally, I like penalties.

“I don’t think there’s any pressure on keepers.

“You just need to make sure you do your homework and when you come to it make sure that if you go the right way you save it!”
