MATTY: WE SHOT OURSELVES IN THE FOOT

Matty Pearson knows there is work to be done by Huddersfield Town after losing to Fulham in their second Sky Bet Championship match of the season.

The centre-back started in a back four for Town, who were playing in front of home supporters in a competitive fixture at the John Smith’s Stadium for the first time in 533 days.

On the team’s defensive performance, Matty said:

“There were a number of goals that were avoidable today, we’ve shot ourselves in the foot really with the first couple and against a team like Fulham it’s hard to come back from that.

“Man for man marking from corners is something that’s happened twice now - it’s something we’ve got to address.”

Having been relegated from the Premier League last season, the Cottagers bought a strong squad to West Yorkshire. Summer signing Pearson conceded, however, that that is no excuse.

“Like you say they’ve got talented players, but we still had a few chances, including an offside goal, and we managed to score as well.

“All in all, we’ve brought the goals on ourselves and if we could have avoided them we could have been in the game more.”

Town return to action on Tuesday 17 August 2021, with Preston North End the visitors to the John Smith’s Stadium in the Sky Bet Championship.
