LOAN: MATTY DALY JOINS HARTLEPOOL UNITED

5 August 2021

First loan spell for Town Academy graduate

- Matty Daly joins Hartlepool United on loan
- First loan spell for 20-year-old attacking midfielder
- Comments from Head of Football Operations Leigh Bromby

Matty Daly has today joined Sky Bet League 2 side Hartlepool United on loan for the 2021/22 season.

As part of the agreement, Town will have the option to recall Matty during the January 2022 transfer window.

This is a first loan spell for the 20-year-old attack-minded midfielder, whose 12 senior appearances have all come for the Terriers to date.

Having progressed through the Town Academy, Matty made his senior debut as a substitute in the Premier League game against Watford at the John Smith’s Stadium during April 2019. He’s gone on to make two starts and 10 substitute appearances in Town colours, with his only goal securing a vital Championship win at Charlton Athletic in December 2019.

Matty has also been capped by England up to Under-18 level.

He now joins Hartlepool United upon their return to the EFL, having won the Vanarama National League Play-Offs at the conclusion of last season.

Head of Football Operations Leigh Bromby explained:

“Matty has been part of our senior squad for the best part of three seasons now, and has had a taste of senior football, so it’s easy to forget he is still only 20 years old.

“This loan represents a really important next step in his development. Matty’s talent is there for everyone to see, but the challenge is now for him to go and establish himself in Hartlepool United’s team and show that he can apply his ability in Sky Bet League 2.

“We’re all eagerly anticipating Matty doing just that and returning to Huddersfield Town an improved player.”
