Centre back to gain his first senior experience

- Academy centre back Josh Okpolokpo heads out on loan
- 18-year-old defender joins Pontefract Collieries
- Josh was recently part of a Republic of Ireland Under-19 squad

Academy centre back Josh Okpolokpo has today joined Pontefract Collieries on loan until 16 September 2021.

This will be an important first taste of senior football for the 18-year-old defender, who is part of our Under-19 squad.

Josh joined our Academy from Ipswich Town in the summer of 2019, having started his football career in the Republic of Ireland with Cherry Orchard. He was recently named in a 35-man training camp for Eire’s Under-19s, having signed a one-year professional contract with Town in July.

Pontefract Collieries play in the Pitching In Northern Premier League Division One East; the eighth tier of the English football pyramid. Their next game takes place on Tuesday evening, when they host Cleethorpes Town in league action.

Josh becomes the third member of Town’s Under-19 squad to leave on loan, following on from Ernaldo Krasniqi at Falkirk and Michael Roxburgh at Billingham Town.
