- Worthy praised how his side battled throughout

Huddersfield Town’s Jon Worthington was pleased with the way his young side battled against an experienced Liversedge FC team in their 1-0 defeat on Thursday evening.

Town fielded a young XI consisting of a number of Under-17 players, who performed well to keep the hosts at bay for the majority of the match.

A collected rebound from a freekick secured Liversedge’s win in the second half. Despite falling behind, Worthy was pleased with what he saw from his side.

"I think the game was what we expected it to be, a real physical challenge in being out of possession.

"I thought they competed really well, and I think they defended the box really well too.

"It's always difficult when you've got significant physical differences between the two teams, but I think we tried to play with enthusiasm and implemented our style. There were some strong periods at times."

Worthy admitted that the experience gained by his young side was more valuable than the result.

"The score line of this game wasn't the biggest thing to take away, it was a development game and there were lots for individuals to take from it.

"It was all about giving players different exposure and different experiences, especially the younger players.

"I think one of the most pleasing things was the way that individuals dealt with their duals on the pitch.

"That was an objective of today's game and there were some great outcomes from that."
