TOWN WOMEN RETURN TO ACTION IN STOCKPORT FRIENDLY

4 April 2021

Supporters can watch the game live on YouTube

- Town Women to face Stockport in friendly
- Match in preparation for the Women’s FA Cup tie
- Friendly will be broadcast on 'HTWTV' on YouTube

Huddersfield Town Women play their first game since early January when they welcome Stockport County to the Stafflex Arena in a behind-closed-doors friendly on Sunday afternoon.

The game will be the first ever to be broadcast live on the club's 'HTWTV' YouTube channel in an effort to bring the fans closer to the action.

The Terriers hosted this weekend's opponents in pre-season, winning 2-1 in an away game which saw Serena Fletcher open the scoring with her first goal in blue and white before Sarah Danby struck a second-half winner.

Couple that with their incredible nine-match winning run pre-lockdown and Town head into the game as firm favourites, but Manager Jordan Wimpenny knows it won't be a straight-forward win.

"Obviously we played them in pre-season and credit to them, they tested us. I'm excited for us to play them again to be honest because they caused us problems.

"For us, it's a good challenge going into the game the following week and I hope they do cause us more problems because that's the only way we'll get better as a team."

Having being on such good form before lockdown halted play and put an end to the league campaign, Wimpenny is eager to regain his side's momentum in time for the FA Cup tie against either Brighouse Town or Newcastle United next weekend.

"It's very good to be back training. The players and staff have all been looking forward to it. It's been a long time coming and we've loved being back out there.

"All we want to do is play. We've got the game against Stockport this weekend but the FA Cup next week and we need to give the players the game time they need.

"We've just got to demonstrate more of what we’re good at. Keep the fight, the style of play, the maturity the we've shown throughout (the season)."

Despite Stockport playing in a lower league than Town, it is vital that the Terriers don't underestimate Sunday's opposition, as shown by their valiant effort in the pre-season encounter. Wimpenny says that he and his staff have prepared for the game no differently than for any other.

"We prepare the same way for every game and this is the exact same, the only difference being that there's been a big break in between. We'll prepare the best we can and keep players safe. We want to use Sunday to keep building the momentum we had from the league and take that into the FA Cup fixture against Brighouse or Newcastle.

"Both the win and minutes on the pitch are important to me. Because we've had such a long time out, minutes in the legs is key. We'll give Stockport the respect they deserve, like we do for all teams, and we'll go out to try and win."

The game kicks off at 2pm on Sunday afternoon and fans can keep to date across all digital ‘@HTAFCWomen’ platforms.
