TOWN WOMEN HOST DERBY IN FA CUP FOURTH ROUND

15 April 2021

Manager Jordan Wimpenny speaks ahead of Derby County visit

- Injury updates on the Terriers’ key players
- Another home FA Cup game for Huddersfield Town Women
- Watch the tie live on HTWTV

Huddersfield Town Women welcome Derby County to the Stafflex Arena in the Fourth Round of the Vitality Women’s FA Cup on Sunday afternoon.

The match kicks off at 2pm and can be watched live for free on the Club’s ‘HTWTV’ YouTube channel from 1.55pm.

The Terriers made it to the Fourth Round after a penalty shootout win over local rivals Brighouse Town Women last weekend. Having fallen behind early on and trailing at half time, Town came back fighting as Brittany Sanderson netted an equaliser before Bethan Davies and Katie Nutter became penalty heroines.

Despite a sub-par performance, Manager Jordan Wimpenny was pleased with the desire shown by his team, but knows they will have to do better to beat Derby.

“Brighouse gave us a tough game at the weekend, and we were fortunate to make it through. We have players who can make in impact off the bench and everyone plays their part. Derby will be our toughest match of the season with the form they’re in.

“We have to manage injuries and knocks; we’re hoping to have everyone fit for the weekend.”

When asked what threats the Rams will pose on Sunday, Wimpenny was in defiant mood.

“As we always do, we’ve tried to find out as much as possible about our opposition. We haven’t played them yet this season, so I’m excited to see how we fare against a new opposition. We haven’t played them in the league and I’m excited for the challenge.”

Having ended the FA WNL season top of the table, Wimpenny has been full of praise for his squad, and also believes that playing at home will help them in their bid to progress to the Fifth Round of the Women’s FA Cup.

“Reflecting on the season, we’ve had a lot of home games and it’s something that has been good for us. The fact that we have another FA Cup tie at home is great for us. It’s somewhere we’ve had a lot of success at and hopefully that will continue against Derby on Sunday.”
