Young Terriers win at Canalside

- Town’s U19s ran out winners against Tadcaster Albion
- First minutes back from injury for Jaheim Headley and Kian Harratt
- Goals from Jaheim Headley and Kit Elliott

Huddersfield Town’s Under-19s produced a dominant performance to beat Northern Premier League side Tadcaster Albion 2-0 at Canalside on Saturday afternoon.

Jaheim Headley opened the scoring midway through the first half on his return from injury before Kit Elliott won and converted Town’s second from the penalty spot before half-time.

The Young Terriers’ dominance of proceedings could have been reflected in the score line further had they not been denied by the woodwork four times throughout the match.

Town began in the ascendancy, controlling possession and creating several chances inside the opening 20 minutes.

Kian Harratt came close when he rose highest at the back post to head Brahima Diarra’s cross just wide of the mark.

Elliott then came even closer, meeting Ilounga Pata’s cross and volleying onto the crossbar from close range.

Town’s dominance in the early exchanges paid dividends when Headley broke the deadlock in the 21st minute. The left wing-back, playing in a more advanced position in a 3-5-2 formation, latched onto a through ball into the left channel, advancing into the box and finishing confidently at the near post.

Headley almost turned from scorer to provider when he cut the ball back to Harratt on the edge of the area. The striker controlled well but his left-footed effort across goal flew just wide.

Harratt found himself in a similar position moments later, however, with his back to goal he opted to set up Elliott who fired just over the crossbar.

Town doubled their advantage eight minutes before half-time when Elliott converted from the penalty spot. Pata crossed low into the feet of the striker inside the box who was brought down cynically by the defender before stepping up and confidently dispatching the resulting penalty into the bottom left corner.

Town started the second half where they left off in the first, hitting the woodwork for the second time in the match. Myles Bright cut onto his left foot from the right corner of the area and curled beautifully towards the top left, beating the goalkeeper but clipping the top of the crossbar.

The woodwork denied Josh Austerfield twice late in the second half; first when he volleyed from the edge of the box, and once again after the opposition goalkeeper tipped his effort onto the post.
